Thursday musings on alignment, choice, and the quantum field of possibilities. Oh, and duck birthdays.
Tomorrow, Tilly turns one. Wensley and Blue follow a day and a half later. They’re three wise, watchful ducks who see me as family and follow my lead with the kind of trust that keeps them safe and makes me feel part of something core and necessary about existence itself.
It surprises people when I say this duck journey wasn’t “meant to be.”
But that’s not how the universe actually works. The universe doesn’t predetermine your path and then sit back to watch you discover it. That’s just passive spirituality dressed up as wisdom. And, frankly, it keeps you small.
I have an alternative framework. We’re co-creating with quantum fields of possibility. Our souls choose experiences for growth, yes, but then we have to actively participate in collapsing those possibilities into reality through conscious choice and aligned action.
Alignment isn’t about ease. (That will surprise a lot of people!) It’s about a recognition that’s felt in your bones and DNA, even when it doesn’t make logical sense to anyone else.
The duck equation
Bringing home two dozen duck eggs was an aligned choice, even though it was completely impractical. Setting up an incubator in my office was another aligned choice that made visitors question my sanity. Building Duckingham Palace? Yup. Another aligned action that needed actual construction skills I didn’t possess. (Thank you, Blake.)
Rehoming seven of the ten ducklings so they could stay together was heartbreaking and absolutely aligned. Learning to conduct Zoom calls while ducks forage nearby was necessary adaptation to aligned living.
None of this was “meant to be” in the cosmic-predestination sense. Yet all of it was co-created through a series of choices that felt right in my bones, even when they felt wrong to my logical mind.
When alignment gets messy
What I’ve found is that sometimes alignment flows easily externally, but challenges you internally. A great example is when opportunities arrive faster than you can process them.
Other times it flows internally but creates external friction, like when you know a relationship needs to end even though the ending will be brutal.
– Divorce can feel completely wrong and completely aligned simultaneously.
– Starting a business can feel terrifying and essential.
– Moving across the country can disrupt everything and still be the only way forward.
That’s because alignment isn’t about comfort as much as conscious participation in your soul’s curriculum.
The upgrade
“Meant to be” keeps you passive, waiting for signs, resigned to whatever unfolds. Alignment keeps you active, choosing, responding, and co-creating with forces that feel bigger than you but not separate from you.
So, when something doesn’t work out, instead of “I guess it wasn’t meant to be,” try “What is this teaching me about my next aligned choice?”
When something flows beautifully, instead of “It was meant to be,” try “I co-created this through aligned action.”
Your soul chooses the curriculum, but you choose how consciously you engage with it.
Tomorrow, I’ll celebrate three ducks who’ve taught me more about conscious choice than most spiritual books. They weren’t meant to be mine. (Haha) They became mine through a series of aligned choices that transformed all of us.
I have tremendous gratitude for all the possibilities waiting to be consciously chosen,
Jonni
PS: And if you’ve been waiting for life to show you what’s “meant to be” instead of actively co-creating what wants to come through, maybe it’s time to upgrade your spiritual operating system. The universe wants your conscious participation, not your passive acceptance.
