When August takes a break

I'm

Jonni

I'm a transpersonal psychologist with 35 years of experience interpreting what's actually happening under the surface. The patterns, timing, dreams, relationships, and  stuff that doesn't make sense until it suddenly does.
I write here the way I work: deep, direct, and more interested in what's true than what sounds comforting.

Thursday musings on unexpected rain, duck joy, and plans that know when to pivot.

Yesterday, at 5:30 AM, I was suited up in full rain gear, following three ecstatic ducks through every puddle in the garden. Tilly, Wensley, and Blue were in their absolute element, bills deep in mud as they hunted for slugs with the dedication of webbed-foot archaeologists.

Meanwhile, I was discovering the strange relief of plans that melted away on their own.

The other day was all August languor and shade-seeking. Yesterday, the sky opened up and said, Actually, let’s try something different. It was the kind of rain that made everything fresh. But it also made ‘ber months feel closer, even though we’re barely into August.

To me, August drawls: Well now…what if taking a break was exactly what we all needed? The best thing about plans is how gracefully they can shift.

The gardens got their first real, long, satisfying drink in weeks. I got a break from the daily watering ritual. The ducks got their personal paradise of worms and puddles and the kind of weather that makes their duck souls sing.

Everything got to breathe and refresh.

Unexpected rain gives you permission to change course entirely. Maybe you wanted to curl up inside instead of seeking shade outside. Did you let the weather decide the day’s rhythm instead of fighting for your original agenda?

That’s the lesson hidden in yesterday’s downpour. The most perfect break is the one you didn’t plan. August knows exactly what kind of slowness you need, even when it’s not the kind you expected.

So today, I’m following the ducks’ lead by welcoming the unexpected refresh, trusting that plans can change, gardens can water themselves, and cozy indoor energy is just another way to honour the season’s invitation to slow down.

You’re allowed to change course when the weather changes its mind. You’re also allowed to call it perfect timing, even when it wasn’t the timing you had in mind.

With gratitude for all the breaks that arrive exactly when we need them,

Jonni
